Sunday 25th January 2004

A 31-year-old Bomaderry man was killed when he was struck by lightning during a cricket game at Artie Smith Oval in Bomaderry about 5.30pm yesterday.

The man was batting when lightning struck the pitch, causing him to collapse. Ambulance officers were called and administered treatment at the scene, however, the man was pronounced dead on arrival at Shoalhaven Hospital.

The lightning strike also injured two nearby fielders, a 39-year-old man and his 13-year-old son, both from Ulladulla.

The Nowra area experienced severe electrical storms yesterday afternoon and in a separate incident two women were injured while they attended to their horses in Worrigee. The two local women, aged 34 and 40, were taken to Shoalhaven Hospital where they were treated for minor burns.
